Our Founder

Founder/Principal Ken DeSieghardt has personally worked with more than 160 school districts and associations using customized communications and research tools to secure more concrete information for Patron Insight’s clients. Ken digs deeper into any communications need to create plans that are readable, pertinent and actionable. He speaks frequently at local, regional and national education conferences and is the author of School Communication that Works.

A graduate of the University of Kansas, with post-graduate work in research at The Burke Institute, Ken is also a double-lung transplant survivor (transplant date June 8, 2019) and passionate advocate for organ donation.

Jon Ratliff
Jon has three decades of experience in developing communications strategy and implementing tactics on behalf of clients in the profit and non-profit sectors. His award-winning work has reached important audiences and achieved business objectives. Jon earned a BFA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and is accredited by the Public Relations Society of America. His areas of interest include enhancing outreach in STEAM education and integrating communications through advertising, media relations, social media and business collateral. He lives in Prairie Village, Kan. with his wife, who is an education consultant.

Jan Sokoloff-Harness, Sokoloff-Harness Communications, LLC
Jan Sokoloff Harness is the founder and chief creative instigator of Sokoloff Harness Communications LLC, the international agency she launched in 2002. Her clients range from Fortune 500 companies to non-profit agencies. She built her career – and her reputation – as an agency creative director and a radio news director. An award-winning writer and respected communications coach and mentor, Jan is the author of Look Up: Your Unexpected Guide to Good, the Creative Chai e-book, and the Creative Instigation blog. She is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Journalism.

Don Weston, Market Research Associates, LLC
Don is the owner of Market Research Associates, LLC (MRA). He has more than 30 years’ experience working with several Fortune 500 companies conducting consumer and business to business customer satisfaction, brand awareness, pricing and advertising testing research along with political polling. National clients have included: McDonald’s, Walmart, Johnson and Johnson, Caterpillar, Pfizer, Hardees and General Electric. Local and regional clients include St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City Star, Hallmark, Burns and McDonald, H&R Block and Shook Hardy and Bacon LLC. Don has also worked with several municipalities, more than 160 school districts and numerous advertising agencies. MRA has been Patron Insight’s exclusive data collection and constituent recruiting partner since 1992.

Community engagement, media relations and government affairs

Steve Hale
As a former school board president and city council member, Steve Hale has been on the front lines of bond initiatives and constituent engagement. In his recent capacity as a Senior Partnership Specialist with the 2020 Census, Steve presented to more than 100 education-based groups, civic organizations and elected bodies across Kansas. He was a lead liaison for the census with congressional field offices, the governor and multiple associations with statewide reach. A longtime journalist, Steve has personally conducted scores of media interviews. When Steve facilitates media training, it’s from the perspective of knowing how to effectively advance constituent-focused messaging based on valid research and pertinent insight.
